Frontline Style

How we started…

FLS first started in the 1950’s when the founder, (Frances Urwin's father), opened his first hair salon in Bristol, setting the entrepreneurial trend and establishing the cornerstone for what has now become a very professional, sophisticated business.

From the start he strove to do something different, to think outside the box and to deliver not only modern, up-to-the-minute hairstyles, strong colouring work but also initiate a focus on hair loss and wig work. Outstanding customer care and training was a key part of his business culture. His reputation quickly grew and with it his ‘empire’, moving from large Bristol premises into Weston-super-Mare and the surrounding area. In time, the portfolio increased to six salons adding beauty salons to the company offering and in 1986 a full retail Perfumery was added to the Wells salon.

From these humble beginnings, Frontlinestyle is now one of the significant players in West Country hairdressing and beauty treatments. Today we have two mainstream, state-of-the-art boutique salons in Wells and Bath, welcoming clients from both the UK and abroad, including several celebrities.

Getting involved

With such strong roots in the West Country, we have always been committed to supporting the local community and getting involved. In this respect, we have forged strong links with complementary partner companies, working together to create the ultimate customer experience.

We are also delighted to be in a position to support a number of charities, including the NSPCC, cancer research, break through breast cancer and, more locally, the Forever Friends appeal for the RUH in Bath and their work which resulted in a state of the art new premature baby unit.

Our business continues to be involved in fashion and bridal shows and exhibitions, and undertakes a lot of work for school proms, as well as many other events both to raise money, and to develop and excite the team.

Our experienced stylists and therapists participate in industry competitions, including the renowned Wella ‘Trend Vision’, and over the years

the business has been recognised nationally, winning awards in customer service, retail and marketing.

Quality assured

Frontlinestyle remains a company of opportunity and, now in its third generation, we continue to encourage new ways of delivering and maintaining a high profile for the industry, as well as recognising and developing our staff. As a result, we are proud to have earned the accredited Investors in People award each year since its inception in 1995.

We are firm believers in high quality training and our ongoing programme remains an important part of the culture of our business. To this end we provide comprehensive careers advice to local schools and undertake extensive work experience programmes. We have also been the driving force behind a seminar programme run by a group of companies aimed at college and university leavers to help them understand what future employers expect of them.

Our future together

Frontlinestyle is still very much a family business and we are proud of our heritage – and of how far we have come. The business has changed and grown, where adding beauty and perfumery to an already successful formula has enabled clients who visit to have solutions to most of their concerns. In the company we use only the very best high quality brands and products, our team has a very strong work ethic and friendliness, politeness and professionalism are high priorities

but we still strive to keep those initial values set so long ago – to give exceptional customer service and to continually delight the client.
